Celebration of 64th Wildlife Week

Theme: “Big Cats – Predators Under Threat”

As part of the 64th Wildlife Week Celebration, the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB) organised a field trip to Khonoma Village Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary with the Interns (for People’s Biodiversity Register –PBR preparation) and Khonoma BMC members on 8th October 2018. The Trekking groups were joined by the guests from Assam State Biodiversity Board.

The trip commenced towards the Village – Khonoma at 11:00 AM from the Forest Office Complex and reached the village gate at 12:45 PM. The team was met by the Khonoma BMC members at the gate and there on trekked towards Khonoma Nature Conservation & Tragopan Sanctuary. On reaching the sanctuary area, the BMC secretary deliberated on the conservation activities and issues in the area. By 3:30 PM, the team headed down to the KNCTS Hall where the 64th Wildlife Week was celebrated on the theme “Big Cats – Predators under threat” with the leaders and members of various organisation (Village Council, Women Organisation, Youth Organisation, Students’ Union, and Khonoma Village Nature Conservation & Tragopan Sanctuary Trust) of the Khonoma village. The semi-formal program was chaired by Shri. Neizokhotuo Belho, Techinal Executive cum Consultant, NSBB. A short speech was delivered by the resource person Dr. Oinam Sunanda Devi, Scientific Officer, Assam State Biodiversity Board. Mr. Khriekhoto Mor, Chairman KNCTS shared a brief history of the sanctuary. The event was sucessfully hosted by Khonoma Village Biodiversity Management Committee in collaboration with the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB).
