International Day for Biological Diversity 20 was celebrated on 22nd May 2020, under the theme “Our Solutions are in Nature” at the Conference Hall, Forest Office Complex, New Ministers’ Hill. The event was organized by the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB), in collaboration with the Kohima Press Club which is a conglomeration of all registered print and electronic media in the State.

 

There were 15 News Correspondents and freelance journalists/writers representing print and electronic media platforms like The Press Trust of India, All India Radio, DD News, Nagaland Post, Morung Express, Capi, Eastern Mirror, NEPS, VN Cable and the Dept.of Information and Public Relations, Govt. of Nagaland

 

The programme was carried out by strictly adhering to all social distancing norms and other government guidelines, hence ensuring safety for all the participants.

 

Mrs. Atono Kense, General Secretary, Kohima Press Club (KPC) chaired the proceedings of the programme.

 

Shri. Supongnukshi Ao, IFS, CCF & Member Secretary of Nagaland SBB delivered the keynote address where he encouraged the Fourth Estate of the Society to partner with the Board on this confronting and challenging issues of conservation and utilisation of our biological resources in a sustainable manner. He also highlighted the importance and status of constitution of BMCs and PBRs in all the local bodies of the State.

 

Shri. Satya Prakash Tripathi, IFS (Retd.), Chairman Nagaland SBB addressed the august gathering on the importance of disseminating and creating awareness to all the Stakeholders, particularly the upcoming generation.

 

Shri. C.M Chang, Hon’ble Minister Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Justice & Law released the short film and the Illustrative booklet on the title “ Our Solutions are in Nature”. In his special speech, he highlighted the State’s rich biodiversity and appealed to all the citizens of the state to conserve nature, forest, wildlife and biodiversity and take significance of biodiversity in planning and implementing developmental program. He also stressed on the need to nurture biological resources for their sustained supply to our future generation and further stated “There is need of working in mission mode for biodiversity conservation, with an objective of turning the tide of destruction into a new, positive relationship between people and nature.”

 

Mrs. Alice Yhoshü, President KPC expressed gratitude to the Board for partnering with the Press media fraternity and assure to jointly venture at this calling hour.

 

On the release of the short film “ Our Solutions are in Nature” on YouTube channel of Dreamz Unlimited, a local film production unit, has attracted a huge number of viewers with many positive feedbacks. As of 26/05/2020, it has more than 2,43,599 viewers.

The illustrative booklet titled “Our Solutions are in Nature” was projected onscreen during the programme. The booklet compares the impact of proper resource management and vice-versa. The purpose of this booklet is to bridge the language barrier by using sketches, depicting the positivity on conservation and sustainable management of Nature on one hand, and the negativity of unsustainable management practices on the other hand. This will be distributed to all the BMCs to create mass awareness.
